Back to Life
- Release Year: 2019
- Rating: 100% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 7.5/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Two
This is one of the most popular shows on Showtime and for good reason. It is a comedy-drama series about Miri Matteson who returns home after a decade-long prison stint. She served time in prison for a crime committed when she was a teen. It is a poignant, funny, bizarre, dark, and beautifully written show. There are two seasons of the show, so once you’re hooked you’ll have a bit more content to watch.
Homeland
- Release Year: 2011-2021
- Rating: 85% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8.3/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Eight
We had to throw it back to a slightly older tv series because it is one of the most beloved shows of the last decade amongst all TV services. Some even say Homeland is a work of genius. Homeland is about a CIA operative Carrie Mathison who starts looking for an American prisoner. The CIA suspects this prisoner joined Al-Qaeda. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis play the principal characters. With an edge-of-your-seat plot, a bit of romance, and complex characters you won’t forget, the show’s eight seasons will hook you from start to finish. The many storylines closely mirror real political happenings. So much so that people say writers seem to have predicted certain global events. You will have lots of content to watch up until the last and most reason season (which came out earlier this year).
Dexter
- Release Year: 2006-2013
- Rating: 71% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8.6/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Eight
A true blast from the past, Dexter just doesn’t seem to get old. It was one of the first major TV series to come from Showtime and it’s still one of the best. Dexter is a crime drama mystery that takes place in Miami and follows the story of a forensics technician who lives a double life.
This show also has eight seasons so there is a plethora of content to consume. The series has won a whole slew of accolades. Michael C. Hall received over five Emmy nominations and lots of other awards for his performance as the serial killer in the series. The best news is that a new Dexter ten-episode series is due to launch this fall.
Shameless
- Release Year: 2011-2021
- Rating: 82% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8.5/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Eleven
Shameless is another Showtimeoriginal series that was and still is a big hit. Based on an original British show of the same name, the show does its original justice. It’s a lighter series that focuses on a dysfunctional family in the Midwest. William H. Macy plays the father figure as one of the show's central characters. It had a decade-long run of eleven seasons. You can also find it on other streaming services like Netflix, which is a testament to its popularity.
Billions
- Release Year: 2016
- Rating: 88% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8.4/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Five
Damien Lewis who starred in Homeland returned to Showtime for performance in another hit series, Billions. It follows the story of Bobby Axelrod, a famous hedge fund manager who is entirely driven by money, even if it means doing illegal things. It is consistently rated one of the best Showtime series for its flashy and indulgent themes. Viewers and critics alike applaud Damien Lewis’s performance.
Twin Peaks: The Return
- Release Year: 2017
- Rating: 94% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8.5/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: Eighteen parts
Another blast from the past, Twin Peaks was originally an ABC series from the 90s. The famous David Lynch and Mark Frost brought the show back to Showtime in 2017. The show picks up 25 years after a town's shock by the murder of the homecoming queen. Fans of the original series will be happy to recognize lots of returning characters from the original series. The show has won several Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing. Some people even say this sequel to the original Twin Peaks is better than the original.
Escape at Dannemora
- Release Year: 2018
- Rating: 90% Rotten Tomatoes
- Stars: 8/10 IMDb
- # of Seasons: One
Ben Stiller’s carefully crafted prison break series harks back to what crime films were like in the 70s. The series, based on a true story, tells the story of two prison inmates. They develop a relationship with a female employee at the correctional facility. Patricia Arquette won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-series for her performance. There is only one seven-episode season of the series so savor it wisely.
Borg vs. McEnroe

This 2017 sports film is coming to Showtime this month. It is about a rivalry between tennis champions. Shia LaBeouf and Sverrir Gudnason play John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg. The film comes to a head over their vicious competition at the 1980 Wimbledon championship.
